Rael: ‘Think green – pee on the side of the road!’
LAS VEGAS, Nov. 16 – After the BBC reported that U.K. gardeners are asking people to urinate outdoors ‘to help gardens grow greener,’ Rael, founder and leader of the International Raelian Movement, issued the following statement:
“People in the United States feel guilty when they pee on the side of the road, and the police give them tickets for doing it. Instead, people should be encouraged to relieve themselves that way, since it helps nature by making things grow better. It’s a green act, not a criminal act!”
The BBC reported Nov. 13 that a straw “pee bale” three meters long was installed two months ago on a National Trust property in Cambridgeshire, with head gardener Philip Whaites asking the men of the estate’s 70-member work force to pee on it during non-visitation hours. (Whaites told the BBC that he didn’t ask female employees to participate, since it’s easier for men to urinate outdoors, and that male urine is preferable anyway, since it’s somewhat less acidic than that of females.)
As reported by the BBC, the goals underlying Whaites’ request were “to activate the composting process on the estate’s compost heap” and economize on daily water usage by reducing the number of flushes in the property’s loos (toilets).
