LAS VEGAS, Dec. 1 – After the request by the U.S. government to lift the United Nations ban on cluster bombs, Rael, spiritual leader of the Raelian Movement, has asked the Nobel Committee to retract President Obama’s Nobel Peace Prize.

“This request to lift the ban on cluster bombs is another crime committed by a nation whose president is a Nobel Peace Prize winner,” Rael declared in a statement released today. “Will the Nobel Prize committee finally have the courage to strip him of this award?”

In March, Rael had this to say about the American president’s award:

“Shouldn’t a Peace Prize recipient like Obama have the honesty to return that prize after leading this attack on Libya that killed civilians he claimed to protect?” he asked.

Raelians say the situation has worsened since then, and they applaud the recent U.N. decision to retain the cluster bombs ban after the United States requested that it be lifted.

“It’s a relief to see that the United Nations didn’t buy into the pseudo-humanitarian reasons given by the United States to justify lifting the ban,” said Brigitte Boisselier, spokesperson for the Raelian Movement. “A bomb made to kill civilians is simply not acceptable, and to have it promoted by a Nobel Peace Prize recipient is just as unacceptable. All other Nobel Peace Prize laureates should feel offended to hold a prize that has been given to someone who, in just three years of command, has managed to bomb three countries: Pakistan, Yemen and Libya, plus keep two other inherited wars going.”
